3/1-2020Olympic gold for the GAME House in Viborg
GAME House Viborg was awarded Olympic gold by the International Olympic Committee – IOC and International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) during the Awards Gala, November 2019, in Cologne, Germany.
The transformation of an old windmill factory into a youth sports and culture hub was acknowledged among 98 participants from all over the world as a great solution for tackling two different contemporary challenges in today’s society: The sustainable re-use of abandoned prefabricated industrial buildings and the creation of lasting social change through youth-led sports and culture.
Awarded every two years since 1987, the IOC IAKS Award are the most important international architecture prizes for sports, leisure and recreational facilities.
By commending sports and leisure facilities of exemplary design and function, the IOC IAKS Award brings to public attention exemplary buildings and complexes that integrate sensible sustainability and legacy considerations, strong functional planning and exceptional architectural design.
GAME House Viborg is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Viborg, the Danish foundations Realdania, TrygFonden, Nordea-fonden, The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities, Det Obelske Familiefond, EFFEKT and GAME.
